I just had a cool experience in a store. I was purchasing my sundries, thinking about William Shakespeare. I was thinking about how I adore Hamlet, and how I wonder about people who don't even know his work, or know who he is. Just private, random thoughts about Shakespeare. Until I hear this:
"William Shakespeare." I looked up. It was the cashier, staring at me. "I'm sorry?" "I don't know why, but all of a sudden, I'm ringing up this stuff, and William Shakespeare busts into my head." *blink* "Oh, that this too, too sullied flesh would melt, thaw, and resolve itself into a dew...Hamlet. I'm thinking of Hamlet." "You...just out of nowhere?" "I'm sorry, yeah, I don't mean to be weird. I just looked at you, looked to my left, then all of a sudden it was there." "I've...was thinking about Shakespeare. You were reading my thoughts." "WHAH?" "Weird." He shakes my hand. "Thank you," he says vehemently. "Thank YOU. I guess you need to go home and do some reading?" "I guess I do!"
Don't you wish we could all communicate to our full capacity? I suppose, thought, that there are some thoughts I do not want to read in other's minds, or have them see from my own. tifanie | 05.24.05 - 11:47 pm | #
