Last night I had a date with hubby, in which we saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Lovely, lovely, lovely movie. Highly recommend. Chased that with a night full of dreams in which hubby was systematically erased from my memory. The Horror. I suppose you might say it's better than grandmothers re-animated, but I'm not so sure about that.

Do you all realize that Dogville (Lars Von Trier- a god), The Ladykillers (Cohen Bros- gods) and Jersey Girl (Kevin Smith- eh...minor deity) all come out this Friday? That's a lot of movie watching to do!

1 Comments:

Lars is my favourite director.

No, Lynch.

Wait, I meant Hal Hartly.

Got it. Hal Von Lynch. Yeah.

what about PT Anderson???

*ahem* May non-Roze's join this conversation? For something completely unrelated?

Darling, you absolutely MUST read the Rushdie book. His talent has grown so immense that it would be run-screaming-terrifying if it weren't so generous.

But if you're ever going to write that musical, you'll never be able to do it without reference to this book, now, one way or another. So--whether you read it or not--you'll have to reckon with it. But I'm about 3/4 the way through it, and the Orpheus allusion isn't hitting me over the head or anything.

Clearly, you are a genius, or Rushdie's shadow twin (this has reference, in the book), or BOTH!

No, non-rozes may not join this conversation. I was told to say that. By a Roze. Sam Roze. He's sitting right here, and he likes M. Night Shyamalan despite his commercial success. He knows that's not trendy, but the work is solid.

Do you have a favorite film? That one film?
Shawn | Homepage | 03.24.04 - 4:02 pm | #

Yes. It's called 'Magnolia'.
Anomalous | 03.24.04 - 4:53 pm | #

Oh yes. Magnolia. The DVD you gave me for Christmas. Yes. We need to talk about that...
Shawn | Homepage | 03.24.04 - 11:13 pm | #

Magnolia. What was it Kevin Smith said about Magnolia? I couldn't say it better than that, though my feelings are less vitriolic.

It's an interesting tactic when you direct your movies specifically to people who already think you're a genius.

Not that I didn't enjoy Magnolia, or that it didn't move me. I love PT Anderson, in general, but I want his mom to take him into her arms, hold him, and say, "honey, everyone thinks you're a great director. It's okay. Just relax."

them's fightin' words.

I know. I hesistated to even say it, but I think... well, he's made better films. This said, I really honestly LOVE Magnolia, adore it, I just don't see it as a grail of modern filmmaking.
